Pokemon Cards World Wide
The Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG) has experienced substantial popularity growth since it’s establishment in the 1990s. Quickly after it’s initial release in Japan, the game was translated into English and brought over to the United States. As of today, the Pokemon TCG has been printed in a total of 15 different languages all over the world. Managing the extensive range of cards released in various languages presents a significant challenge. The most obvious, I can’t read or understand the majority of these languages. Consequently, I have opted to narrow my focus on just three distinct languages.
Japanese Pokemon TCG
The Japanese Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG), was first released in 1996. These cards were introduced alongside the launch of the original Pokemon video games, Pokemon Red and Green, in Japan. The trading card game quickly gained popularity and became a significant part of the Pokemon franchise’s success.
English Pokemon TCG
The first English Pokemon cards were created in 1999 by Wizards of the Coast, a leading game company based in the United States. Due to its massive success in Japan, Wizards of the Coast decided to bring the game to the global market. English cards are some of the most widely sought after and collected.
S-Chinese Pokemon TCG
In late 2022, The Pokémon Company International announced the release of Simplified Chinese Pokémon cards in mainland China. This marks the first time that official Chinese-language Pokémon cards have been made available in the region. Simplified Chinese Pokemon cards have also been referred to as Mainland Chinese, or S-Chinese; not to be confused with Traditional Chinese.
